Maryland State Trooper Injured While Arresting A Suspect

On Saturday night around 11:00 p.m. Maryland State Police responded to the area of 71st Street in Ocean City to assist officers of the Ocean City Police Department with a disorderly crowd.

An Ocean City officer was attempting to arrest Jonathan Bello, 23, of Norfolk, Va. who resisted arrest and fled on foot.

A trooper pursued Bello and upon reaching him, both fell to the ground, with Bello falling on top of the trooper.

The trooper was knocked unconscious and sustained a laceration to his head. After determining that the trooper was not breathing, life saving measures were administered. The trooper was transported in a police cruiser to a nearby ambulance and then was transported to an area hospital. After being treated, the trooper released from the hospital.

Bello was arrested and he has been charged with resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, escape, and disorderly conduct.
